Mad Mockingbirds & The End Of The Gazebo

Yesterday morning the Oklahoma wind was so crazy that the gazebo was jumping all over the patio. It was scary.

So I finally got a hammer and pliers and went outside to start taking it apart before it did a lot of damage.

I was unable to take many of the screws out. When Israel put it together, he had electric tools, and I don't.

Plus the rods holding it up have been bent from this spring's winds, making it even harder to get to the screws.

The legs of the gazebo are even bent now from the beating the wind has been giving it.

I ripped the canvas top off the rods with my pliers so that it wouldn't blow around so much. It was like a lid on a boiling pot of hot water with that thing on it.

When I couldn't get any more done, I emailed my daughter. Her husband, who drives a pick-up, will try to come over after work to see what he can do.

They are getting ready for a trip this weekend to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe my baby is 38 years old and has been married 15 years. Time does fly.

Two enraged mockingbirds kept swooping down at us, so I assume they have a nest out on the patio.

I put the dogs inside. Years ago I had a friend whose dog's eye was pecked out by a mockingbird. So I'm not taking any chances.

Oh my, these two birds squawked like someone was beating them. I imagine they won't let anything get near their nest.

I would not want to do battle with these mockingbirds.

Yes, I'm sad about my gazebo. I loved it. I enjoyed it tremendously in the year I had it.

But Oklahoma winds are truly brutal. I had the same type of gazebo in Texas for years, and nothing ever happened to it.

But this isn't Texas. The wind truly does come sweeping down the plains, and it can blow down most anything in its path.

Another Oklahoma blogger, who I think has since stopped blogging, once told me in an email that the wind blew her earrings right out of her ears.

Now that is a heavy duty wind!

The only thing that might get to the bird's nest, I imagine, would be the wind blowing it from wherever it happens to be.

And that would be one predator that the mockingbirds would not be able to fight.

I sure hope that doesn't happen.
