Every time I open the patio door to let the dogs out, a flock of birds lift up into the air in a wild swoosh that reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds."
Do you remember that movie from 1963?
I didn't see it until I was a teen I don't think. I was just starting school around 1963. (We didn't have a kindergarten, so I went straight into the first grade.)
I recall that was one of the few movies that scared me half to death.
Alfred Hitchcock. I hadn't thought about him in years. He was often referred to as "The Master Of Suspense."
Movies back then sure were different than what they serve up now.
I don't go to movies. The noise level is a bit too jarring for me.

I don't know how many squirrels are out there. But I see them chasing one another across the rooftops.
When a squirrel has his back to the patio while he drinks from the bird bath and swishes his tail, it just about drives poor Charlie crazy.
See that pink tongue on the right side of his mouth? He has one long tongue. And with only two teeth, I guess he has trouble keeping it in his mouth.
After the squirrels get a drink, they scurry back up the fence. I swear they taunt him by turning their heads away as if ignoring him.
They are clever little rascals.
It gets tiring sitting at the patio doors shaking and quaking with rage at the squirrel antics. So every little bit he has a big yawn and then climbs the doggy steps to his bed to take a nap.
I imagine it's pretty boring for those squirrels without having him there as an audience as they go about their crazy hijinks.
Then the squirrels go wherever squirrels go when Charlie isn't there to put a show on for. Maybe they sleep somewhere up in the tree branches.
We get quite the nature show around here come summertime.
Alfred Hitchcock could make a movie called "The Squirrels" but I doubt it would be as scary as "The Birds."
Unless the squirrels flew at your face like those birds did.
Those were wicked scary movies back then.

Luck is everything... My good luck in life was to be a really frightened person. I'm fortunate to be a coward, to have a low threshold of fear, because a hero couldn't make a good suspense film. Alfred Hitchcock
