Night before last, I was outside with the dogs, and I heard Abi scream out in pain.
I rushed over and picked her up, but couldn't find a thing wrong with her. Her little body kind of seized up, and I wondered if she was having a stroke or something.
She has been acting odd for about a month. At first I thought it was a urinary infection because she wants out half the night.
But I talked to the vet and since she doesn't like to go out all day, we decided that wasn't it.
So yesterday morning I got up and just took her in and asked to be worked into the schedule. The vet gave her a check up, and he discovered it is her neck. She apparently has a bulging disk in her neck.
He applied a laser treatment, which I'd never heard of. It reminded me of the ultrasound I get at physical therapy. He gave me pain pills and we will watch her closely.
My not getting much deep sleep, which is I'm sure why I fell last week. The back of my head is still sore.
He told me to keep her quiet. Yeah, right. Abi quiet?
You can tell she's in pain. She won't be still. She's even more afraid I will leave her, and follows me relentlessly around the apartment to keep an eye on me.
One day I opened the front door and she bit me on the hand as I put her down, drawing blood. She is simply not herself.
I so hope she doesn't have to have surgery. Just over a year ago it was Abi having surgery for a torn ACL, I believe it was. Then after that it was Charlie with his eye.
I wore myself out painting the bathroom to get it ready for the possible new owners, then they never came. So I'm hurting too and need to get into PT.
Carrying Abi around doesn't help, but you do what you have to do. Charlie wants out constantly, but I can't just open the door and leave him out there because he is a barker. And I don't want complaints lodged against me for it. So I have to go out with him.
Thus is the life of a pet owner. We love our babies. We hate to see them in pain. The pupsters are 10 now, so 70 in people years.
It is getting to be time to put the water gardens together. However, so far I've seen nothing from the water garden plants from last year.
So I've decided that I may not put the water gardens out this year if the plants in fact didn't make it through the winter.
I may have to pay for yet another dog surgery, and might need to be even more frugal. I'm not going to buy water plants every year.
Will just have to see what happens.
